Color My Hair Salon Review / The Hair Story Continues: Do Blondes Have More Fun?
The last time I had blond hair was back when I was in college and itching to try crazy hair colors. I did an ash blond shade that looked all right when paired with my morena skin tone. I remember that the bleaching process was incredibly painful, with the chemicals stinging my scalp like crazy. This was pretty much my biggest deterrent when I was considering going blond again, but I realized that this is probably my last chance to try such an oddball color. (I'm turning 27 in September and I don't want to be 30 and still doing crazy chemical stuff to my hair, haha.)
Anyway, given my last horrible experience, I decided to try out the Color My Hair technical salon. Since their primary product is color, I figured they'd have more experience at it. As luck would have it, they were having a big sale on their treatments, and I was able to get a whopping 20% off the entire bleaching/coloring process!
It didn't take me long to select the loveliest shade of light gold from their color chart. They use MOD (but also have L'Oreal available if you ask for it), and the entire process took about two and half hours.
I'm not going to lie-- the bleaching process was *painful*. The first part where they just do the strands didn't hurt at all, but during the second bleaching where they included my roots, I was in agony. I had to fan my scalp with a bit of cardboard just to numb the sensation a bit... I'm so glad the air conditioning was cold!
After the two bleaching sessions, the color I chose finally came on. This part is usually not painful, but because my scalp was pretty raw after the bleaching, the coloring hurt also. :( This part lasted the longest, as it had to be a full 25 minutes so that the color could really seep in (the bleaching sessions only took a few minutes each).
After that, they washed it all off and given the stiffness of my strands, I requested an additional hair treatment. This just took 15 minutes and pretty much deep-conditioned my hair. I was really grateful that I decided to add this on, because it gave my scalp much-needed nourishment and pampering. Whew!
And the result?
I have to use my gold brow mascara to lighten my brows all the time now, and I didn't realize how much hair color affects your choice of makeup colors! I can wear all the light blue eyeliner I want now, though I have to leave the red lipstick on the shelf (it looks trampy with the blond hair).
All in all, I thought that the color was a refreshing change. I'm still trying to get used to the new color palette I have to work with (blond hair + tan skin), so expect some rather interesting makeup looks soon! :D
If anyone's interested in checking out Color My Hair, I paid P1280 for the wash out, P1280 for the color, and P600 for the optional conditioning treatment. All in all, it cost me P3,160, but their coloring for short hair (no bleach) starts at less than a thousand!
It's not the poshest of places, but the technicians are great and they really know their colors. (Randy was nice enough to keep careful watch on the bleaching clock because he knew how painful the process was.) You can find this salon at the 5th floor, Bldg. B, of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

Stay beautiful, ladies~!

yikes at the bleaching! but i guess the pain was somehow worth it, because you look super cute as a blonde, Lizz!!!! you'd give Nikki Gil a run for her money at Legally Blonde the Musical. haha.
<3,
boat ride through the sky
Oooh it looks good on you!
The last time I had blond hair was about three years ago. It cost me 5k and I looked like a disaster. You, however, look fantastic! :D
Pretty!
A lot of people would say that blonde hair doesn't suit Filipinos. I say they're wrong! :D
I usually dye my hair the lightest color I could find at Watson's... but I want my hair to be lighter. I've been thinking of having my hair dyed at a salon but I'm scared of the bleaching process.. I'm afraid I might cause a scene because of the pain in the salon. Hahaha! :D
gorgeous!! I love it when girls brave the beauty unknown! :) i felt the same way when i went lighter and lighter with my hair.. :) good thing though i didn't need to have it bleached. but i sooo love your new look that i am considering it.. hmmm..:)
i agree about the 30 thing.. though i think i'd still be experimenting by that time. lol!
Gela- Yuz, it is the suckiest part, haha. Thank you~! I'm still a bit shocked whenever I wake up in the morning, lol!
Demetia- Thank you, dear~
Mia- Haha, it's bearable naman. I also used to get the lightest, brightest red to dye my hair, but it always turned out quite dark. I guess bleaching is the only way if you really want blond...
Shen- But with that L'oreal "no ammonia" thing, hopefully it won't be painful in the future~! :D I'm scared of getting cancer so I'm trying to wean myself off the chemicals I used often, haha.
Lauren- Okay, you totally need to show me pictures~! What color did you choose? Like really light blonde or medium/dark?
pretty!!! you looked like a doll (^_^) if only i have the guts to try coloring my hair that way i would..
stay nice and pretty.. it was nice chatting/texting you (^_^) hihi.. you're so sweet
hugs and kisses,
rhaindropz
I've always wanted to be blonde. erratum. I've always wanted to be a barbie!
To what extent did the bleach damage your hair cause i dont have the best of strands! Kaya na supper happy ako when Loreal indeed improve my hair instead of damaging it
Rhain- Haha, thanks dear! :D :D :D
Kumiko- Yez, Barbies make me happy~! XD
Very Gutsy move! And I agree with the first comment - it reminds me of Nikki Gil in Legally Blonde! It looks good though!
P.S. Where did you get your gold brow pencil?
such a bold move! although i like your hair darker, you were able to pull off the blonde look pretty well!
Anna- Haha thanks! It's gold brow mascara and I got it from Japan when I was still studying there. Super old na, but it still works, surprisingly!
Bianca- Haha, I wanted a change but my guy prefers my long hair so I opted to color instead of cut. I'm still getting used to it myself! XD
You look so different, in a good way! Haha :D -- Therese :)
