Beauty Product Review: Glambox Airbrush Cosmetics for Makeup Mavens

The Starter Kit

No one was more surprised than I was when I won the Glambox Airbrush Cosmetics giveaway in Facebook a couple of months ago, and I was really excited to try the product out. I'd been hearing some interesting buzz around the blogosphere about it, and while I had checked out their Multiply site, I found myself shying away from the Php8,500 price tag.

The Starter Kit arrived immediately after the day I won, and it included the airbrush kit, the compressor, 3 starter colors (1 blush, 1 foundation, and 1 cleaner), a carrying case, and an instructional DVD.

The airbrush gun. Sleek!

I found that the gun handled like any other airbrush gun (i.e. the kind you would use for making airbrush art), and that it worked perfectly well with the provided liquid makeup. One thing that I didn't anticipate was the difficulty of using it on myself, however, and I admit that I did struggle with the contraption during my first hour of testing.

Practicing on my arm!

Picking out colors from a website is always difficult, and I'm sad to say that I didn't get the proper shade for myself. The foundation color was too dark and the blush was too light, so I ended up looking quite odd when I used them together. Since the starter kit is a pretty big investment, I suggest going down to one of their many physical branches and checking out the colors in person.

The airbrush provides pretty good results, but make no mistake that it needs practice to use. During my first application, I ended up using the brush too close to my face and left patches of uncovered skin around my forehead (see photo on the left side of the image below).

During my second try, I ended up with slightly better results but still couldn't bring myself to go out in public in my resulting look. It took me three tries before I finally got the hang of using the airbrush (result on the right side of the image above). Once you know what you're doing, the result of airbrushing is actually quite nice. Even with completely the wrong shade, I ended up with a somewhat decent base. (NOTE: Watch the instructional video-- it really helps if you don't know how to hold an airbrush.) :)

If you're considering purchasing a Glambox Airbush Cosmetics kit, you should go for it if:
1) You're a pro.
2) You can afford to spend 15 minutes putting on your foundation. (The amount of time it takes to put it on + the time it takes to clean your airbrush gun).
3) You are a true makeup maven.

The biggest pro for airbrush makeup for me would be the fact that you could go through a lot of people really, really fast with this. If you had to do the makeup for an entire bridal entourage, for example, all you'd need to do is line them up and spray away. It really is much faster if you have to do a lot of people. However, if you're planning on using this as everyday work makeup, I'm not sure if this would be the best buy for you. You need to clean the airbrush gun after use immediately, because if you don't, the leftovers might clog the mechanism.

All told, this setup is a great buy for makeup mavens and professionals. It's cheap compared to other airbrush cosmetics, gives fantastic results when you know what you're doing, and is fun to experiment with.

Definitely NOT for me! I never use foundation but I work hard at having nice skin instead.

Oh, not saying your skin isn't nice BTW! :-D

I'm just to lazy to use foundation to I'd rather stand the odd zit.
