Event Management and Planning 101
As someone who absolutely loves going to events, I've always been interested in what goes on behind-the-scenes. Bloggers usually see the polished, finished product-- whether it's a huge party celebrating a product's launch or a formal affair showcasing a new fashion collection, we never really get to appreciate the effort that goes into the events we go to.
I'm personally fascinated with events planning, as I used to dabble in this back when I was in college. We'd hold various competitions and meets for our sports organization, and each one required quite a bit of planning. I always had such a hard time because I was more or less flying blind-- I didn't have any idea how to go about getting the word out, looking for sponsors, and finding a suitable location. It's a good thing we didn't end up having tournaments in the parking lot, haha!
In any case, I found a great site featuring free event management courses. It's got everything from simple event planning tips to steps on how to create a promotional campaign.
For my lovely lady readers out there, they've got a comprehensive wedding planning checklist-- save yourself the hassle of hiring a wedding planner and DIY! Planning your own wedding becomes as easy as pie when they've done the checklist, listed the budget down (all you have to do is fill in the actual prices), and created a step-by-step timetable that lists every reservation and order that you need to make!
If that's not enough, they also have a huge forum that's perfect for networking. You can ask events professionals from all over the world for advice, tips, and even trade secrets. It would have been awesome if this was around when I was still in University-- it would have saved me a lot of tears! Still, I'm glad that such a useful site is freely available now... if I ever need to plan an event again, I know where to download my checklist.
Have you ever experienced planning an event? How did it go?

planned my own wedding. which i don't have any idea at first, but we had a year to plan the whole thing so it turned out quite how we hope it would be.
oh btw am so sorry about your tooth surgery.
i hate dentists. Not personally but they're the least of my fave people in the world.
next week need to go to one for my pasta. grrrr. ngayun pa lang nagdadasal na ako.
get well soon.
I am Denise Katipunera
Denise- Wow, you're so amazing! Even if you had a whole year to plan, taking care of your whole wedding planning is still a huge achievement. :D
My tooth is okay now, by the way. My tongue is still numb, but it's getting better everyday.
Now if only I can get well from this chicken pox. Ugh.
Good luck with your dentist trip! :D
hello, Lizz.
so this event management and planning thing, even if it looks so simple, it's not. hehe
For this company that I work for, planning events is part of the job, even if I work in Marketing. An event would cause me to panic every week. Planning events for a new hotel's opening, a restaurant's opening, and even some important wedding is enough to cause me to panic. (planning even requires a whole department)
(usually during events which we planned, I can't eat. because it's so stressful and all)
I am a amazed by Denise (up there) because she had planned her wedding on her own. Which is something I don't think I can ever do for anyone's wedding for this matter.
i hope you're doing better what with the shingles :)
Hey Kath! Yikes, that sounds so stressful! I don't envy your position-- I imagine it's super exciting, but also really tiring.
Haha yeah, Denise is awesome! I've been to lots of weddings, and usually they have their mothers or aunts plan the wedding if they don't get a pro, haha.
I'm still super itchy and the spots are still coming out, but hopefully I'll be okay in a couple weeks...
I'm checking it out just for the sake of curiosity because I have no clue what "event planning" really encompass.
Generally speaking, I like to gather small groups and throwing a huge party anyway.
