Enter BB Creams:
I did a lot of research before buying my BB creams, but most of the top Korean brands just aren't available here. SkinFood's Mushroom BB cream was the most readily available (Face Shop in Eastwood was out of stock), so I snapped up a tube just to try it out.
Since this is my very first BB cream, my first impression when I squeezed it out of the tube was that it was a lot like liquid foundation. I got Shade #2 (natural), and was really hoping it would match my skin tone. BB cream boasts that aside from encouraging regrowth of skin, minimizing pores, and treating pimples, it also blends into your natural color.
When I put it on (instructions say to use your fingers and spread/pat to even it out), it was so obviously the wrong color for me. I felt like I was wearing a white mask on my face. :| BB creams also state that you just have to wait around 15 minutes for it to set, and after 15 minutes this was the result:
As you can see, the cream went a few shades darker but didn't really match my skintone perfectly. It still looks like I'm wearing something 2 shades too light for me. A definite pro is that it did minimize my pores AND it provided pretty good coverage. I had a dark spot on the bridge of my nose (from 2 decades of wearing glasses), and while it didn't hide the spot completely, it did lighten it enough.
Also, this cream is WONDERFUL for taking pictures. It looked brighter and more mask-y in person, but on photos my skin looked really radiant. :D
Another thing of note is that I have oily/combination skin. After about 3-4 hours of wear, my nose got quite oily (thanks to Philippine humidity), and I had to reapply some cream on my T-zone. The dewy, fresh look suddenly looked very much like I applied unnatural light makeup and ran around and sweated on it. :(
+ SkinFood BB Cream
I then got the idea to use primer before the cream, and the result was a paler hue right off the bat. I guess the fact that TBS's primer makes makeup stick more meant that the light color was way too strong in the end. :P
I will say this, though: After just one use, my skin looked and felt smoother. I also imagined that it looked a little whiter, (one of the "extras" on this BB cream was the whitening aspect), but I can't really be sure. Please note that all BB creams are just like makeup and must be removed as such to avoid breakouts. :)
All in all, I'd give SkinFood a 2.5 out of 5 stars. The horrendous price tag is more than double the price if you purchase it in Korea, and I can say that it really is only worth half of what I paid for it. In terms of the repurchase factor, I'd have to say NO. Again, the color is wrong, the oil control factor is wrong for the Philippines, and I'd rather stick to my pimple cream + moisturizer + mineral makeup routine if it means I don't look like a ghost. :P (I might still wear this if I take pictures, though. Hehe.)
If you have dry, pale skin, then you should definitely try this cream. I swiped some on my boyfriend's jawline to check out the tone, and it was *perfect* for him. (He's Chinese and very pale, plus his skin is on the dry side.)
Skin Food BB Creams may be purchased at any of the plethora of stores in Metro Manila. I bought mine from the Megamall branch (2nd floor, bridgeway,), though I recommend you search ebay.ph for it. There are some Korean sellers there that sell it at the real price (around Php600-800), and it's all on-hand and ready to ship. They're based in the Philippines also, so it'll take all of a day to get to you. I recommend Sun Kim, because I bought my Skin79 BB cream from her and she's very prompt and lovely to deal with.
International buyers may purchase this from Amazon.com; Mushroom Multi Care shade #2 is linked to the left.
I'll be reviewing Skin79 and Tony Moly BB creams next. Happy Holidays, ladies! :D

haha. yeah... bb creams are made for pale koreans. :( boo! my mom uses skin79 and swears by it... she let me try it on and my gawd nagmukha akong multong bakla. LOL.
i didnt know skin food is expensive! skin79 only costs about 700 right? hmmm... have you heard about the maybelline bb cream? only 299. haha!
I think BB creams are a little unforgiving to tropical climates and morena-ish skin. I wasn't too happy with the one I got from Etude cos the oil control is horrible.
Did you try reducing the amount you use? The first time I put on my BB cream I was *horrified* by how pale I looked even after several minutes. I removed everything and reapplied the cream, but at a much smaller amount. It eventually matched my skin tone, but I probably don't receive the SPF benefits of the product.
most products you review I have no access to, but I absolutley love the pics of you!!:). IT makes it worth following your blog! beautiful as always!!
Toxic- God, I wish I had their lovely pale skin. Sooo pretty. Skin79 na 30g was about 900 (and she said it was 40% off na daw!). I guess mahal talaga cuz they jack up prices when the stuff gets here. I didn't know maybelline had BB cream! :O I bet it's got more colors than the Korean ones do at least. Haha.
Lauren- Totally unforgiving. I reduced the amount the second time around and the same thing happened. :( I guess SkinFood's really not for me, sigh.
Angel - Awww, thanks hun! I'll include more links to international ebay sellers so you have the option to purchase too. :D I hope you're having a happy holiday!! :D
I've given up on BB creams. I have morena and oily skin which looks horrible with BB creams. Good thing there are samples of diff. BB creams so that I won't go bankcrupt because they are really expensive. My friend who's married to a Korean went home last summer and she gave me lots of BB cream samples, she said Korean beauty shops are generous with samples even if you don't buy from the stores. Haaay, I wish Skin Food here is like that. =)
Badet - Ooh, let me know if you can recommend anything from your samplers! :D
coool! :-)
check out my blog and follow if u like.
Happy newyear 2010!!

i'm actually on a hunt for a good bb cream since late last year. lol, good thing i decided to check out your blog again before buying :) i'll post my own comments when i try 'em :)
also: my officemates were raving how pretty you looked on the pics ;P
yas- Haha, thanks! The cream really makes your skin glow for photos. :)
You know what, you're lighter than me so you'll probably be able to use shade #2 from SkinFood. My only concern is that there's zero oil control going on here, so it may not be what you're looking for.
I've been using the Maybelline BB Cream (review goes up tomorrow), so that one might be better for your skin type. :)
Hi Lizz,
I haven't tried mushroom BB cream yet but it looks really promising. I'm about the same skin type as yours except that I'm on the bit oilier part. LOL!
I might try this one though anyway. Thanks for the review and comment to my blog! ^_^
Hope you could follow mine as well.
Jane- Hey hey! Welcome to my blog. I've followed yours as well. Best of luck with this BB cream! :D
Beauty care profession really a nice job. salon and makeup also an important issue a beautician and the customer. All looking to be nice but I think only one bad side is excessive/wrong use of cosmetics and makeup accessories may be harmful.
