In any case, we drove to Subic Bay in the middle of a storm (because we believe in pushing through with our commitments, and also because I threatened to cry if I didn't get to play with dolphins), and were lucky enough to make it to our destination in one piece. The eye of a typhoon is beautiful, terrifying thing. I don't recommend seeing it up close.
Our hotel was called Subic Park Hotel, 45 minutes away from the nice beaches (5 minutes away from the crappy ones), and it was mediocre at best. It's truly sad when a hotel spends so much time and effort on their lobbies rather than their rooms, but there you go. At least Wi-Fi in the lobby was free. I really don't recommend this place unless they renovate their rooms. :(
In any case, the skies finally cleared up on the second day (our first day there was spent doing little more than watching TV and "holding hands" :D), so we happily made our way to Ocean Adventure. It was a 45-minute drive from our hotel, and by the time we got there, the sun was shining and the birds were chirping.
We caught the dolphin show (which was awesome), and then signed up for the beach encounter. It was around P2000 per person (maybe more, I can't really remember), and you basically get to spend 30 minutes in the beach area playing with dolphins. You get to feed, pet, and play with these dolphins under the trainer's watchful eyes, and I thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
The boy and I wait with breathless anticipation as the trainer calls the dolphin forward. Being a sneaky bastard, it comes up from behind. :D
Dolphins like to smile for the camera!I think it's important to mention at this point that dolphins feel like wet shoe leather. They have really really soft skin, and are apparently quite playful. There was one point where the trainer had flipped him over to show us his (ahem) genital pouch, and I asked if he was sure that Loki was a boy dolphin. (A genital pouch is just a long slit down their stomachs.)
Apparently, Loki heard me because he then brought out his equipment (the slit opens to reveal a pretty standard male organ) and peed on us. :|
Thank God for salt water, though I did make sure to scrub extra hard in the shower. In any case, I did have a wonderful time, and I'd love to return for the swim encounter when time and the weather allows. (The swim encounter is where you get to ride on the backs of the dolphins and whale and they swim around the enclosure with you. It's also more expensive, though. Boo.)
I greatly recommend a visit to this place if you want to have an interactive adventure with the friendliest (and apparently the most playful) sea creatures ever! :D

Ew. I bet they smell. I mean, seals smell, so I've been told.
Bim- Lol, actually they don't! Seals do smell, but dolphins don't smell like anything except saltwater. :)
