Nutshell Reviews: X-Men Origins, Monsters Vs. Aliens

As a somewhat rabid X-Men fan, saying that I was greatly looking forward to watching "Origins" is something of an understatement. I was sorely disappointed with X3: The Last Stand (hooray for killing all the principal characters! Not.), and I felt that the genre desperately needed a good X-movie.

As a character, Wolverine has a plethora of story that one can draw upon. His Lady Deathstrike story arc, for one, was one of his most popular and I can't fathom why they didn't just adapt that. As it was, watching Origins was a lot like pulling teeth-- I didn't understand what was going on most of the time, and what little I did understand caused me great pain.

Ironically, the leaked movie that came out a few weeks prior the theater release was actually on par with the final film. And I say this even with the green screen and visible wires on the latter version, because frankly, CGI does not a movie make.

Either way, I'd suggest saving yourself a few bucks and just Watch movies online instead. It's not the theatrical release, but at least you won't feel bad about spending money on the thing.

Monsters Vs. Aliens was the first movie I'd ever seen at the IMAX theater at the SM Mall of Asia. The CGI was top-notch as per usual, though I found that the story was fairly cookie-cutter. Don't get me wrong-- the signature Dreamworks laughs were all there, but Wall-E this ain't.

It's about as shallow as a kiddie wading pool, and when watched in the right mood can be highly entertaining. Blob was pretty much my favourite character, mostly because he was bright blue and ate everything.

Economic recession aside, your hard-earned cash for IMAX tickets should best be reserved for movies Made of Awesome, such as Star Trek (come on, you know it's going to rule) and Terminator: Salvation (Christian Bale is the most talented jerk ever).

Either way, Watch movies at MyMovees.com -- mispelled as their name might be, the streaming is pretty fast and I was actually compelled to sit through Wolverine yet again (don't ask me why-- perhaps I like watching train wrecks). Both movies (and a lot of the latest releases) are up, and I'm personally pretty tired of watching movies on YouTube when they're split into 40 different pieces. :P

I went to see Wolverine and I love your comparison: yes, he did feel like a visit at the dentist! :D

The movie was confused, jumped all over the place, and way too digitalized... Not so good.

Zhu- Too true! You know a movie's bad when the only thing it has going for it are the effects. :(
