Valentine's Day And You: Activities For Couples

In the past 8 years, I've spent only one Valentine's day without a significant other. You'd think that with the decent amount of V-Day experience that I've had, coming up with activities for Valentine's would be easy. Upon deeper introspection, however, I've realized that I have no better ideas for stuff to do now then I did back when I was 17.

Trolling the net (oh you clever, clever monkey) has yielded varied suggestions. Some of them are promising, others less so. Nevertheless, out of the goodness of my heart I've decided to share some of the better (and worst) ones with you and, because there are two sides to every coin, I've put a Pro/Con beside these activities.

1) According to Cosmo: Getting a room with a vibrating bed Vs. Scattering your bed with rose petals. (From the tacky Vs. tasteful article).
Pro: Doing the former means not having to do as much work, whilst the latter means you spend the afternoon looking for, buying, and ripping petals off of defenseless flowers. I'm getting tired just thinking about it.
Con: A vibrating bed has no cons, damn it! (As for the rose petals-- see pro).
Verdict: Cosmo is half-right. This goes on my list under "Maybe".

2) According to About.com's Family Crafts section: Cut larger heart shapes out of construction paper. Cut the hearts in half. On one half of the heart, write a number. On the other half of the heart, place a corresponding amount of smaller hearts (made from construction paper). You can also use stickers instead of cut out hearts. Make as many puzzle pieces as you want. Use these for younger kids to match the correct number of hearts or pictures with the numbers.
Pro: A simple, fun ice-breaker for all those orgies you're planning on attending!
Con: Paper cuts on Valentine's Day? Boo!
Verdict: Unfortunately, my list of invites to orgies dwindled significantly when I realized that I was the monogamous sort. No one likes inviting people who just "want to watch". Oh well!

3) Stay in and Watch a Romantic Movie like, say, Titanic: Valentine's Day means doing activities that will please the both of you, and nothing will please both men and women more than rewatching the classic love story "Titanic". Hahahaha.
Pro: It's the classic love story, "Titanic"!
Con: It's the classic love story, "Titanic"! How can you go wrong?
Verdict: Pass, LOL.

4) Go out to a romantic dinner which you, the woman, pays for: Nothing is more romantic for a guy then not spending money, and since you've spent the past years (or months) of your relationship leeching off of him like Susie Homemaker-in-the-making (unless you're an intelligent, modern woman who insists on paying her own way *cough cough*), I'm sure you've saved up enough dough to go somewhere nice.
Pro: You get to choose your favourite resto! Be it La Souffle, Cibo, or hell, even Pancake House, you get to pick! (But make a reservation-- restos are packed on V-Day).
Con: He'll get used to you paying and you'll end up a Sugar Mommy, inevitably having to pay for the both of you until you can no longer support him, your five children, and your tiny Cubao apartment on your call center salary.
Verdict: I'm a better cook than most restaurants, and out to dinner on Valentine's is like the biggest cliche EVAR.

5) According to Suite101 "Give Each Other Sexy Valentine's Day Gifts and See What Happens": I'm assuming this is a paid entry with exceptional writing, because it's inundated with links to sexy stores and shops. I don't care, though, because that Simply4lovers.com site offers a "Clone a Willy" kit. Which means you can buy a kit for less than $50 that will let you clone your significant other's package.
Pro: IT WILL LET YOU CLONE YOUR PARTNER'S PACKAGE. OMG.
Con: THERE ARE NO CONS.
Verdict: It's sexy and it's art! Who doesn't want a willy paperweight? :D Now, where's my credit card?

How about a vibrating bed with rose petals scattered on it? Best of both worlds!
