Ground Meat and Lizz, Casual Chef Extraordinaire

The thing about having to cook for yourself everyday is that there are no amounts of meat small enough to satisfy just one meal. Whenever I buy a certain cut of beef, even 1/3 of a kilo at the supermarket means that I have to spend 50% of the next week eating that kind of beef. Last week's cut was ground sirloin, and my 1/3 kilo ended up feeding me (and occasionally the boy) for half the week.

I usually get 1/3 of a kilo of beef (usually beef strips) and another kind of meat (usually chicken or lamb), and my challenge is always to come up with the most diverse recipes possible. I have a very picky pallet, and I am usually my own worst critic. Still, with my 1/3 kilo of beef, I was able to coax the following dishes from my tiny little kitchen:

Spaghetti with meat sauce and mushrooms. I was able to get the most divine, incredibly sour tomato sauce from the supermarket, and it went great with diced fresh tomatoes, ground beef, mushrooms, and all sorts of spices. Smothered with parmesan and a slice of cheddar!

I was in the mood for a little Asian after the classic spaghetti meal, so I went with yakisoba, assorted frozen vegetables, ground beef, and a crapload of spices. Topped it off with an egg while it was piping hot, and the result was lovely.

Ahh, hamburgers. Mixed the ground meat up with an egg, crushed garlic, a little chili powder, salt and pepper, and a dash of Teriyaki sauce. Fried it up in butter, threw some relish and parmesan cheese on, then served on top of toasted sesame buns. Out of the three meals, this is the one I'll have to do again. It was fast, fun, and really hit the spot. :)
