The Joys of Cooking / Get in the Kitchen, Woman!

So ever since I moved in to my own place about a month ago, I've been having to cook my own food three times a day, seven days a week. This in itself was not a big change from when I was living and studying in Japan, though the big difference would be that:

1) I am a better cook now
2) Fresh produce is abundant
3) Meat is so cheap that it is practically free

Breakfast is usually french toast or pancakes or an omelet, or if I'm feeling particularly lazy-- a cereal bar and some yogurt. Lunch and dinner are slightly more complex, because there is literally a crapload of dishes one can conjure from a well-stocked pantry. See below:

Yakisoba on top of an omelet;
and no, it's not that instant crap

Rib-eye steak with Putanesca on the side

And another shot, for good measure

Chicken breast with gravy, fried tomatoes with parmesan, and rice

The boyfriend is spectacularly hard to displease when it comes to food, so I now have an overblown sense of greatness when it comes to cooking. (I'm actually contemplating maintaining a cooking tag on this blog.)

In any case, because I've been cooking a lot of main dishes, we've had to resort to going downstairs to buy an icecream for dessert. According to several cooking blogs that I've been reading, dessert is the bookend to a great meal and it should be good enough to entice one's guests to take an extra bite even though they're stuffed. Henceforth, I have decided that Php24 soft serve is not an adequate end to my fantastic meals.

I can't bake in my closet-sized kitchen, so I've been researching how to make quick and easy desserts that don't require having an oven. So far, so good. Expect pictures soon! :)

Aww. Can I crash at your place too? :c

I forgot to ask. Did you ever cure Chicky of the sleeping sickness?

Raein - haha, sure thing! ;) I'll make you french toast. :D

I don't think anything can cure JC of the sleeping sickness... XD

Well, meat is about Php250 for a teeny tiny bit in Japan, so I always feel like it's so cheap here. Lol. Maybe I'm just meat-deprived?

And yeah, blogger word veri sucks... :(

Oh yay! :-) Now to stalk you to find out where you live!

Really? Not even you, huh! Maybe you should go live together :"> Might work. HAHAHA. YAY FOR INAPPROPRIATE SUGGESTIONS THAT WILL MAKE YOU SQUIRM.

Oh man. Really? How about the veggies there? Expensive too?

Lol! You don't have to stalk me; I live in Eastwood. ;)

And yeah, that suggestion would make anyone in a barely 4-month old relationship squirm, hehe. XD

Well, if Php150 for one tomato is expensive, then yes, their veggies are expensive. As a rule, anything fresh is expensive. Their junk food, chocolates, and yakisoba and ramen is cheap...

Oh but Eastwood is so hard to get to.

LOLOL. I like making people squirm. Though I hope I won't have to anticipate a backlash. :-/

EXPENSIVE LIKE HELL :o

This girl can survive on ramen. Me likey.

Try eating ramen every meal for 3 months and see if you still like it :-P

You talk as if you know what it's like :-P

Not really. I just know things because I'm smart.

When did that happen?
